Excel Creates “Baby Beats” — a TV Series Built with His Sons
The new animated music series is based on Prince and Roman, who help shape the concepts and write the music.
Excel Beats has created Baby Beats, a new TV series inspired by — and built with — his two sons, Prince and Roman.
The boys aren't just the inspiration. They play an integral part in the production of the series, assisting in concepts and writing music alongside their dad. What started as studio time with two kids who couldn't stay away from the equipment became characters, songs, and eventually a full series.
Baby Beats carries the family legacy forward: Excel's own father was a songwriter, his great-uncle choreographed for The Temptations, and uncles toured with Ella Fitzgerald. Four generations deep, the music keeps getting passed down — this time to the youngest Whittakers yet.
Excel directs, writes, and produces the series in addition to leading its music — with Prince and Roman contributing ideas and melodies from the family studio.
